Successful race debut for the new BMW S 1000 RR as the WorldSBK kicks off in Australia.
The new BMW S 1000 RR has made its racing debut, just three months after the series model was presented to the global public.
The first race of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in Phillip Island (AUS) was held last Saturday. Tom Sykes (GBR) from the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team finished seventh on his RR. His team mate Markus Reiterberger (GER) finished 13th overall.
In the Superpole qualification race on Saturday morning, Sykes had secured fourth place on the grid. During the race, he was in the top six for a long time before falling behind in the final stages. Reiterberger had started the race from 13th place. After losing a few positions at the start, he managed to catch up again on his brand-new RR and ultimately picked up points for the team.
