Another great year for BMW Motorrad as models succeed in MOTORRAD magazine’s Motorcycle of the Year 2019 reader’s poll
Excellent result for BMW Motorrad with victories in three categories and a total of nine podium finishes.
With victories in the Athletes, Enduro/Supermoto and Crossover categories as well as four runners-up and two third-placed finishes, BMW Motorrad again placed strongly in the 21st MOTORRAD magazine readers’ poll for Motorcycle of the Year 2019, with by 47,407 readers in Germany choosing their favorites from a total of 222 motorcycle models.
”I am delighted about the great results of our models and would like to thank the readers of MOTORRAD magazine for their amazing support. For me and the entire BMW Motorrad team, these nine awards, including the three category wins, are a motivation and incentive to continue to do everything we can to strengthen our lead in the motorcycle market with great products in all the segments we serve,” said Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad, commenting on the results of the 2019 readers’ awards.
The new S 1000 RR won first place in the Sport category. With 22.1% of readers voting for the model, it left strong competition from Italy and the Far East in the dust. The MOTORRAD readers who took part responded positively to the comprehensively revised RR. The new 2019 edition will be even more uncompromising, as well as lighter and faster thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology, and even more controllable from June onward thanks to the latest assistance systems.
In the Crossover category, the BMW S 1000 XR again dominated the 2019 readers’ poll, collecting 20.4% of votes in this highly competitive motorcycle segment. With its fascinating blend of athletic driving dynamics, outstanding sport touring qualities and unique design, it once again took first place in the opinion of readers.
The new R 1250 GS, together with its sister model R 1250 GS Adventure, was also a clear winner, this time in the Enduro/Supermoto category. An impressive 23.5% of readers confirm that these two new GS models with their comprehensively enhanced boxer engine and BMW ShiftCam technology set the standard in their segment.
The popular BMW tour models R 1250 RS and R 1250 RT just missed out on first place in their segment this year. Nevertheless, the R 1250 RS took a strong second place with 22.2% of the readers’ votes, followed by the R 1250 RT in third place. Both models with their excellent all-round qualities in driving dynamics and touring capabilities thus confirm their important role and high acceptance in the Tourer/Sport Tourer category.
The BMW R nineT secured another second place in the Modern Classics category. 17.0% of the voters favored the incomparable mix of its classic but casual design, state-of-the-art technology and athletic driving dynamics.
The BMW G 310 R/GS models competed for the first time in the Newcomers category and were voted runners-up by readers. A great result for these two easy-to-handle all-rounders from BMW Motorrad.
In the Scooter category, BMW Motorrad took another remarkable second place with its emission-free maxi-scooter, C evolution. Third place went to the C 650 Sport/C 650 GT, an excellent overall result in the Urban Mobility segment.
