People and technology, working in perfect harmony.
The BMW Group Plant Berlin has a total of two paint shops.
In “Paint 2”, as the team calls it, seven computer-controlled robots process around 6,000 motorcycle parts a day. Components in various shapes are painted in more than 50 colors using water-based paints. The system is designed in such a way that the robots can paint components of different sizes and dimensions in a flexible sequence. Nevertheless, the expertise of experienced painters is also required. A steady hand is a top priority, especially when applying the traditional decorative trims or masking the tank and side panels. The experts also handle special requests and small scopes.
Since 2017, a paint shop with four additional painting robots has been added to production to satisfy the increasing customer demand for BMW motorcycles. In addition, special paint jobs can be implemented in small series.
